LEVIATHAN
FREIGHTER A017
|
 |
|
The Leviathan-class freighter is a work-in-progress, which is why the command module keeps
changing, and the ship is flagged with the Union Jack, instead of the blue and
yellow Dominion Cross.
|
|
[LEFT] The ships of the Dominion are meant to have a very
utilitarian feel about them, not unlike early Soviet space hardware; what they
lack in style, they more than make up for in capability and endurance. [MIDDLE] The business end of
the Leviathan is equipped with two
massive Impulse Engines, supported by two engine clusters (four chemical
engines each), mounted to allow the ship to "back-up" under full power. [RIGHT] Seen here with the
Settarclipper Tycho, The Leviathan uses a red, epoxy-based
ablative coating over a laminated metallic casing; unlike Tycho, with her mate-white, foamed-ceramic partial shielding. In a
head-to-head race, Leviathan would be the clear winner.

|
[LEFT] This particular manipulator arm is fitted with a
pole clamp (see below), and is used primarily to guide barges into place for
docking. [MIDDLE]
The ship's central Hexaframe truss assembly (minus its six external tanks). [RIGHT] Under normal
operating conditions, the ship will only consume the contents of four out of
its six external fuel tanks; generally the two extra tanks are left in place
and used as fuel haulers.
|
|
[LEFT] The pole clamp (patent pending) is basically a
reusable bolt designed to remotely latch massive objects together, namely
ships. [MIDDLE] A
close-up view of the array of different size pole clamps. The four large clamps
affixed to the Hexaframe are Frame-couplers, and are used for barges; the
smaller clamps around the standard two-meter cargo dock handle shuttlecraft
and landers; while those mounted on the side extensions are Fleet-couplers,
and are used to dock with other Dominion ships. [RIGHT] Two Leviathans hard-docked and acting as a single
ship.
